4 Drops A Day May Keep The Inches Away | Young Living Citrus Oils for Weight Loss

I have to share a quick story with you today because, well, I can’t stop talking about it. Look, today we’re going to talk about something that’s not exactly dinner conversation. You might be embarrassed to talk about it. You might even feel like crying about it (whoo, boy, I’ve been there). I’m talking a little thing called “junk in the trunk.” Don’t worry, my story ends with less of it. Yea, that’s right, I said it. LESS.

One thing that had my interest piqued about essential oils was the fact that my friend, Monique had been using them to literally lose part of herself. She told me at one point that just by taking a few oils throughout the day, she was able to significantly cut down on her mid-section bloat (SOLD), plus she was able to actually lose weight (DING DING DING). “Too good to be true,” I said to myself. What did I say to her, you might be asking? “Where can I get me some of this magic.” Here’s the thing, I have 3 little kids (4-year-old twins and a 2-year-old). Is it an excuse for carrying around a few extra ELL BEE’s? YOU BET YOUR…no, i guess it isn’t. I should work out more but let’s be honest here, mom’s with little ones, if we’re gonna have 15 minutes without a tiny human hanging on us, we want to lay face down in bed and not run in circles in the neighborhood, right? Also, the amount of time I don’t have for meal prep and cutting fresh vegetables is astonishing. Finally, 3 children lived in my mid-section for MONTHS. That just ain’t right! KIDDING…kinda. To say my parts aren’t in the right place right now would be putting it mildly. Let’s just call a spade a spade here, taking care of myself is not high on the priority list right now. There is something that I can do and that’s take baby steps toward a more healthy lifestyle. So my first baby step was to try to help rid my body of toxins and lose some weight.

Well, folks, I followed Monique’s weight-loss & bloat-less regimen and I am BLOWN AWAY by the results. So let’s talk about what it consisted of, shall we?

First: You get yourself a bottle of Lemon Essential Oil.

Second: You get yourself a bottle of Peppermint Essential Oil.

Third: You get yourself a bunch of tiny pill capsules.

Fourth: You get yourself a nice batch of carrier oil (I use grapeseed oil but you can use Castor Oil for all I care…kidding…please don’t use Castor Oil, use cooking oil. Seriously, use a high-quality, pure, organic cooking oil)

Fifth: High-five yourself, because that’s it, folks.

I take 4 drops of Lemon and 4 drops of Peppermint oil and I drop them into my empty capsule. I then fill the rest of the cap up with my carrier oil. Snap on the top. Give ‘er a shake. Take it down with water.

If I was you, I’d start with 1 drop of each essential oil and move up as long as your stomach can handle it. The lemon is going to break up the toxins in your body and in your fat cells (gag). That peppermint is going to seriously regulate your digestion (so watch out if you have a sensitive stomach). It’s an amazing combo. So how much have I lost? Well I have been doing it for a 2 months and I’m down 10 pounds. It’s no Biggest Loser transformation…yet, but I feel less hungry and I’m visibly smaller. In addition, I’m healthier because my body is carrying around less of the toxins I usually just store up for no good reason. True story. I think you should try it! There’s an extra special feeling that comes along with being able to smile in the mirror.

Not convinced yet? Take a look at some of the other things Lemon and Peppermint oil can do:

LEMON

  • Use 1–2 drops of lemon essential oil to remove gum, oil, grease spots, glue or adhesive, and crayon from most surfaces.
  • Combine 2–3 drops of lemon essential oil with water in a spray bottle to help cleanse and sanitize surfaces.
  • Place a drop of lemon essential oil on oily skin or blemishes to help balance oil glands and minimize oil production.
  • Soothe corns, calluses, or bunions by rubbing lemon essential oil on the affected area morning and evening.
  • Massage lemon essential oil into cellulite to help improve circulation and eliminate waste from cells.
  • Add lemon essential oil to your morning tea or breakfast shake for a refreshing pick-me-up.
  • Inhale lemon essential oil or place a few drops on a cotton ball to replenish your mind, body, and spirit.
  • Add 10–15 drops of lemon essential oil to a gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help pull out stains, brighten carpet and rugs, and leave a fresh smell in the room.
  • Add several drops of lemon essential oil to a chicken marinade for a delicious dinner.
  • Place a few drops of your favorite citrus essential oil on a cotton ball and put in the refrigerator to help eliminate odors.

PEPPERMINT

  • Add a drop of peppermint essential oil to herbal tea to help aid normal digestion.
  • Massage several drops of peppermint essential oil on the abdomen, place a drop on wrists, or inhale to soothe the minor stomach discomfort associated with travel.
  • Rub one drop of peppermint essential oil on the temples, forehead, over the sinuses (careful to avoid contact with your eyes), and on the back of the neck to relieve head pressure.
  • Place 2 drops of peppermint essential oil on the tongue and rub another drop of oil under the nose to help improve concentration and alertness.
  • Apply peppermint essential oil to the back of the neck and shoulders throughout the day to keep energy up.
  • Inhale peppermint essential oil, apply topically to your temples or neck, or put a drop on your tongue or in water to jump-start your morning routine.
  • Diffuse or inhale peppermint essential oil mid-morning to curb the desire to snack.
  • Inhale peppermint essential oil or rub a drop on to your abdomen to soothe minor stomach discomfort.

  1. Would adding a drop of thieves to the mix be a good idea or too much of the good stuff?

    • I take a completely separate thieves pill when I feel sick, someone in my house is sick or I think i’ve been around someone sick. You can certainly add it to the mix.

      • Agree totally. The second I feel sick I take a thieves pill. Knock those germs out.

    • I personally don’t feel like adding a drop of thieves would hurt anything. You know I’m all about thieves. ;)

  2. My twins just turned five, my “baby” is about to turn four and the two really bringing out the gray hair are 9 and 12. So I know what you’re talking about! I also agree wholeheartedly with everything else you say. One month with lemon and peppermint and I’m never going back!! :0)

  4. I don’t have capsules so I just added my drops to a glass of water and drank it down fast. ;) I hope it helps!

    • I love lemon and peppermint in my water. The lemon actually neutralizes the “heat” a little for me. SO GOOD.

  6. I’ve been doing this off and on for the last 2 weeks because I had this certain pair of jeans I got for Christmas, but couldn’t wear them because I was pregnant. Well two weeks ago I couldn’t button them or barely breathe in them. Today though not only could I button them and breathe in them, they were Loose!!!!

  7. gonna start this soon… Kinda let myself go after my weightloss, and Need something to help it keep going.. But please make sure I don’t disappear…. Also, Carrier oil.. What do you all use? Could I use olive oil?

    • yea, robyn, you can use olive oil. I love grape seed oil and coconut oil as well.

      • How do you get the coconut oil in the capsule? Also does t it dissolve the capsule?

    i have just stumbled upon this post and i was wondering how you are all doing with this blend? i have been an aromatherapist for over 10 years now and i have never heard of these two being taken together to help reduce weight, but it makes so much sense when you think about it.

    has anyone had any side effects that they didnt like? i have a bit of a sensitive tummy and im fine with peppermint but have never tried lemon internally.

    incidentally though, for those of you that dont know, you can take one drop of peppermint oil daily directly through your tummy button and that will ease conditions such as ibs or other digestive complaints……i am wondering if you can add one drop of both lemon and peppermint directly through the tummy button and if it will have the same weight loss effects as the methods mentioned above.

    • You would have to see what works for you, but I believe taking them in capsules works differently than applying to the skin topically. It is all about what works for you. :)

  9. How many times a day should you do this mixture? I am very excited to try it but wanted to know how often and what time of day works best! Thanks

    • I do it twice a day.

      • Can you take both doses of each at once or do you have to space it out? I.e., 8 drops of lemon and 8 drops of peppermint in capsules?

        • I do them together. Sometimes in the same capsule with a carrier oil.

      • When you say twice a day….do you mean 8 drops of each oil per day? Or do you do 2 drops each twice a day for a total of 4 drops each per day?

  10. I started this a few days ago and I certainly have more energy. Nobody has mentioned that, so maybe it is just a coincidence? The first day I did 1 drop each in the capsule with evoo. 2nd day I increased to 2 drops each. No problems so I am now doing 4 drops each in the capsule. Only problem is there is only enough room for about a drop of evoo. I’m wondering if I do more capsules per day, will that help with weight loss? I’ve been going to the gym for a few months (on and off) and no weight loss or inches loss, although I do feel a little stronger. Guess there might actually be little muscles under all this fat? LOL. Anyway, thanks for the info. I sure hope it works!

    • It doesn’t matter how many capsules it goes in, just that it gets in your body. It sounds like you have small capsules, I can fit 30 drops in the 00 size capsules.

  11. do you have to take these in a capsule form? what if you just mixed the 4 drops of lemon with 4 drops of peppermint and some water and slammed that?

    • You could do that but it would be very strong.

    • Young Living carries them as do many health food stores.

    • You could but it would be very, very strong.

  17. Love your blog! New to oils! Was wondering…could I just put the drops of Lemon and Peppermint in the capsule and leave out the carrier oil? Does the carrier oil deliver the EOs more efficiently or does the carrier oil just cut down on the intensity of the EOs in the stomach?

    • I would not use it without a carrier oil. They are strong. I think it helps with both things as well as leaving as little air in the capsule as possible.

  18. This sounds too good to be true — I can’t wait to try it! BUT… we’re trying to get pregnant. Is this safe to take while pregnant?

    • Peppermint has been linked to decreasing milk supply as well as turning a baby in utero. In the beginning of your pregnancy, if it were me, I’d be ok with it. Once I got to the second trimester I may skip the peppermint though.

  19. am excited to have found this and just started today! should i also change my diet, or will that just happen with the effects of the lemon/peppermint mixture that I will just be less hungry?

    • You will definitely be less hungry! But I will say if you can change your diet, DO IT! :) I did with mine and lost 25 pounds in the first 2 months. The oils do make your digestive tract work better, but also make you feel more full. Good luck!

    • You should be fine! I would just give it a shot and see how you feel. Of course, be warned that Peppermint is a “hot” oil and can be “spicy.” That’s the best way I can explain it. I personally rarely use peppermint without a carrier. Hope that helps.

    • I found coconut oil at wegmans.

  25. My capsules arrived yesterday and I started with the two drops of each but i use coconut oil. This is day two so so far so good! I am excited. I am having difficulty getting my coconut and other ingredients in the capsules. I am thinking with time I will become a pro! Wish me luck!!

  26. whats the purpose of the carrier oil? do you have to put in in the capsule or can it just be the EOs?

  27. Just want to warn everyone to please follow Lindsey’s suggestion to start off with just one drop of the oils and work your way up to four! I thought starting with three drops each would be safe, but I was wrong!!! I took one with lunch yesterday and I’ve been miserable since bedtime last night!

  28. How far in advance can you make your capsules up? Can you do the night before, or at the start of the week and do for the week?

    • I do the night before.

  29. Should it be taken away from food or does it not matter? Also, is the carrier oil necessary? Sounds like if you can drink it in water that the carrier oil in the capsule wouldn’t be needed.

  30. Make sure your brand of EO is digest able. Not all are.

  31. Is it safe to drink water with YL peppermint and lemon drops in it? And if so, what ratio?

    • Yes you can drink young living lemon and peppermint eo in water. Lemon you could probably do to taste; peppermint is VERY strong so I use about 1 drop in 1 liter of water. If following this weight loss protocol the capsules are a much better way to go.

  32. Thinking about trying this combination. Currently I’m putting a bit if conventrated lemon juice in my water to give me a boost but I haven’t seen any difference in waist size or weight loss.

  33. Any issue adding grapefruit to this mix?

    • I add 4 drops of grapefruit and often 4 drops of orange to my water or capsules with the peppermint and lemon. I read it is a great contributor for weight loss/detox so it can’t hurt. I have been doing it for almost a month now. I do have more energy after drinking/consuming this combo and finally can say my stomach (3 kids here) is improving and I feel my face is thinner.

  34. Everybody is different! I started off full force with the lemon and peppermint. I have not had one issue. I even threw in some grapefruit. But I have read people having problems. You know your body so listen to it!

  35. Wondering if I can premix a bottle each of lemon, grapefruit and peppermint, add grapeseed oil and fill capsules from this. Any harm in combining ahead? Any ideas on ratio of oil to add and then how many drops to add to each capsule?

  36. Can I take while nursing?

    • Stacey, peppermint oil can decrease your milk supply so isn’t recommended while nursing. I have been doing lemon and grapefruit while nursing and have found I’m dropping about 100g a day. My son is a year old.

  45. I have been using Slique from YL for about 3 weeks and started having severe joint and muscle pain. I felt like I had been hit by a truck. I have lost about 3 pounds this far. I went off of it over the weekend and most of the pain has eased up. I wonder if anyone else has used it and had discomfort.
